Since last year, Rey Mysterio has had to deal with the nefarious acts of his son, Dominik, who betrayed his father to join Judgment Day. After spending months trying to avoid Dom, Rey finally snapped last week and attacked his own son, setting up her wrestling 39 match.
Father and son had the crowd in the palm of their hands before the fight even started. Dom got out first, fully leaning on his prison stunt by being dropped off by a correction van. He was handcuffed and wearing a wrestling mask as corrections officers escorted him to the ring. Rey was next, thrown out in a lowrider by none other than Snoop Dogg, while the old Eddie Guerrero theme song played.
The match itself was fast paced and lived up to the story that has been told. Dom took control before Rey’s speed caught up with him. Rey turned his son around, removing his belt and spanking her behind. When Dom dumped water on his sister, who was sitting at ringside, Rey came to his aid, allowing Dominik to attack him with a low blow. When Dom went after his mother, she slapped him, causing an enraged Rey to gain the upper hand on Dominik.
Then, as we knew would happen, Damian Priest and Finn Balor came to ringside. Dom regained control over his father with a spin that sent Rey’s head against the ropes in an ugly place. That’s when Legado Del Phantasmo came to even the odds. Dom did the 619 to his dad, getting a count of 2. After that, he went for a chain, but Bad Bunny, who was sitting in the front row, ripped it off. By then, Rey had recovered and went on the offensive, hitting a 619 on his own, followed by a frog splash for the win.
What’s next for Rey and Dominik Mysterio?
The saga between Rey Mysterio and Dominik has been one of the most entertaining stories in WWE. Now that Rey has conquered his son, will that be the end of his enmity? It seems that it is just beginning. It wouldn’t be surprising to see him continue, and for Rey to give his son the last push by letting him step over him. However, if this match is all we have, it was perfect. Father and son did a great job of telling a simple but moving story.
